Kathia Bucho is a designer and creator of contemporary jewellery, currently working in her studio in Lisbon, Portugal.
Her journey in contemporary jewellery began at the Contacto Directo jewellery school in Lisbon. In 2017, she attended and completed the Author Design Course at the Lisbon Jewellery Center (CJLX).
In 2016, she obtained the hallmark of a jewellery manufacturer from the Contrastaria da Casa da Moeda, at which time she created and launched her own brand.
The following year, she was nominated in the Emerging Designer category at the Best Of Awards, organized by Exponor (Porto International Fair) as part of Portojóia.
In 2019, she was one of the selected designers to exhibit her art at the iconic MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture, and Technology) in Lisbon as part of the Portuguese Jewellery X MAAT initiative promoted by the Portuguese Jewellery and Watchmaking Association (AORP). Challenged by the organization, she conceived an exclusive piece, the Oval The Other Side, a silver ring inspired by the curvature of the viewpoint and the oval room of this museum space.
Kathia transforms elements of the urban environment into ergonomic sculptures as an extension of the human body, and she explores dichotomies in all her collections – starting with concepts. She stands out in designer jewellery while challenging the limits of conventionality with unusual designs and shapes that convey unexpected strength. Each piece is an exclusive expression of her relentless pursuit of innovation, ensuring that her jewellery is anything but boring and discreet.
With an approach ranging from the initial sketch on paper to digital creation, she brings pieces that reflect an independent artistic vision to life. Her collections alternate between mechanical structures and geometric shapes, always with unexpected details that make them accurate "wearable" works of art.
